Gastonia, North Carolina

Just a short drive west of Charlotte’s bustling Uptown is the historic Loray Mill located in Gastonia. Established in 1902, the mill was the center of life. Families lived, worked and played in and around the mill. The six story and 600,000 square foot mill was the largest mill under one roof in the world at the time of construction. In 1935 the mill was bought by Firestone and later closed in 1993. However, April 2013 began the first phase of renovation. Today the mill is home to several shops, apartments and event space.

When Alexa invited me to shoot her bridal portraits at her reception venue, I was over the moon to hear it was the beautifully renovated Loray Mill. Traveling all the way from Maryland, Alexa traveled with her wedding dress in her carry on luggage – I was super impressed! We spent the afternoon with Alexa’s mom checking out all the beautiful spots Loray has to offer and taking advantage of ALL that window light! Make sure to go all the way up in the tower if you get the chance to check out the mill!
